In an effort to “Go Green,” help the environment, and save precious taxpayer dollars, the City has printed fewer copies of the Leisure Guide than we have in the past, and the guide is no longer mailed to City residents. Roswell Unveils Citizen Notification Service

Register for Nixle E-Alerts Here

The City of Roswell is launching a new citizen notification service that will deliver important and timely emergency and general information to the City’s residents using the latest technology available.

What is Nixle?

The new notification service, NIXLE, will alert residents to emergency weather events, road closings, public safety advisories, natural and manmade disasters, and general city information through email and text messaging.

How Do I Sign Up?

NIXLE is free and is easy to register for through www.roswellgov.com. The button to sign up for the service is located on the right hand side of the City’s homepage. Those who wish to register will need to create an account with a user name and password, enter an email address and/or cell phone number where you would like to receive the messages, and then enter your address. Currently, residents who register will receive alerts for weather events, road closing, and public safety advisories. Roswell will eventually provide general City information through NIXLE.

Please note that your cell phone provider’s text messaging rates will apply.

Public Comment Needed On Transportation Issues

Residents and those who work in North Fulton are encouraged to provide their ideas and comments regarding transportation needs in the area during a meeting on January 13. The meeting is being held at Alpharetta City Hall from 7:00 until 9:00 PM and will be coordinated by staff of the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The public listening session is part of an ongoing effort, known as the North Fulton Transportation Resource Implementation Program (TRIP), to develop a comprehensive transportation plan for all of North Fulton. According to area transportation leaders, the effort will assist the local jurisdictions by defining area-wide goals, needs and priorities, establishing the basis for future funding requests and multi-jurisdictional efforts and supporting the unique visions of the participating communities’ growth and infrastructure.

The project, which is supported by all of North Fulton’s municipalities, is being coordinated by the Atlanta Regional Commission with the assistance of the engineering firm of Kimley – Horn and Associates. Those who would like to share comments but who are unable to attend the meeting may do so via email to public.meetingatl@kimley-horn.com Additionally, progress on the project can also be followed via the project Facebook page.

For additional information, please visit www.atlantaregional.com/nfctp or contact the Project Manager, Faye DiMassimo, at 404-419-8700.

Over the Limit-Under Arrest

ZERO_ToleranceCity of Alpharetta

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is launching operation Zero Tolerance for the holiday period. The ADPS reminds motorist to obey all traffic laws and use patience during the holiday period due to expected heavy traffic volume. The ADPS will be aggressively enforcing all traffic laws and issuing citations.

ADPS Director Gary George says “strict enforcement of our traffic laws directly leads to safer roadways for our citizens and visitors.” As part of the crackdown to ensure safe roadways, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety will be holding DUI enforcement checkpoints at various locations during the holiday period.

A large multi-jurisdictional checkpoint involving all GA 400 northbound exit ramps from Mansell Road to Windward Parkway will take place on 1-2-2010 beginning at 11:00PM. Participating agencies include the Alpharetta Dept. of Public Safety, Milton Police Department, Roswell Police Department and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The purpose of this checkpoint is to enforce seatbelt usage and to identify and arrest persons who are driving under the influence.

Bring One for the Chipper

Help Protect the Environment and Bring One for the Chipper!

Chipper09WebBarBring One for the Chipper is Georgia’s annual Christmas tree recycling program. Each year, Keep Georgia Beautiful works with private sponsors to organize the recycling event. These statewide sponsors included The Home Depot, The Davey Tree Expert Company and WXIA-TV. Numerous local sponsors and volunteers also make contributions and provide in-kind services across the state.

The Chipper program involves hundreds of Georgia communities and thousands of volunteers. Since its inception, the program has recycled over 4.8 million Christmas trees. The mulch from these trees has been used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects, and individual yards. You can support the Chipper program by bringing your cut Christmas tree to a designated drop off site or volunteering with your local coordinator to collect trees.
